Swap out those refined carbs!

Lose a little weight and help your body become fresher and more energetic by getting rid of all the refined carbs literally weighing you down.

We all need carbs, it’s an essential part of the energy we need, but carbs from veggies and carbs from refined grains have two very different effects on our body!

Try and swap your refined carbs with more natural sources and you will see your energy levels boost through the roof!

Many of the following swaps are already being used regularly in our low carb boxes!

1.     Use cauliflower pizza bases instead of white flour pizza

A pizza base made out of cauliflower adds veggies to your diet and taste to your pizza. It has much more flavour than a white flour base and you can season it with a multitude of herbs to adapt it to your personal taste. 

2.     Use quinoa instead of white rice

Quinoa is so easy to use and much tastier than bland rice. It has more fibre and if you use a red and white quinoa mix it adds a nice colour to your recipes. 

3.     Make zucchini or celery root pasta instead of regular pasta

Use a spiraler and you can make almost any veggie into delicious pasta. Boil them for a few minutes and add to your favourite sauce. For 20€ you can buy a spiraler (spiralschneider) on amazon.de, in Naturata and many other places in Luxembourg. 
 

4.     Use Portobello mushroom “buns” to replace your regular burger buns

These huge, flat mushrooms are great for replacing burger buns. Just brush them with olive oil and pop them in the oven at 200c for 15 min flipping them once halfway through the cooking time. Top them with your favourite meat and toppings. Yummi!
 

5.     Use lettuce leaves or broccoli pulp wraps instead of white flour tortilla wraps

Lettuce leaves can easily be filled with your favourite warm or cold tortilla filling and you can make quick broccoli wraps by using the pulp from one juiced broccoli, 3 eggs and 3 tbsp. olive oil. Mix it all and spread in thin circles on a lined baking sheet. Bake at 200c for 15 min. Flip and bake for another 5 min. Form into tacos while still warm and moist, and fill with your favourite sandwich filling. Easy, filling and delicious!
 

6.     Make almond flour or juice pulp bread instead of wheat bread

Finding an alternative to bread is one of the hardest things when you are trying to avoid grains. Using almond flour can open up a new world of possibilities for grain free baking. What is your experience with swapping carbs?
